William Burton Young

William "Burton" Young was born January 28, 1935, in Jackson County, TN, and he passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center at the age of 89.

Mr. Young was the son of Fred William Young and Bessie Mae Flatt Young. He was a member of the Center Grove Church of Christ and a former board member of Happy Haven Home for Children. He worked at General Motors for 33 years and H & R Block for 25 years. Young also served on the Jackson County School Board for 4 years. On January 2, 1977, he married Sheila Ann Peterson for 47 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Betty Birdwell Young, and brothers, Ray and Bruce Young.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila Young, of Gainesboro; daughter, Judy (Jeff) McDaniel, of Gainesboro; grandchildren, Faith Jacobson, Amy Orndoff, and A J McDaniel; three brothers, Roy (Essie) Young, Jerry (Jo Ann) Young, both of Gainesboro and Sheldon (Lori) Young, of Cookeville; 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-grandson, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

For those who wish to pay their respects, visitation will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Center Grove Church of Christ, a place that held a special place in Burton's life. The memorial service, a time to celebrate his life and praise God, will be conducted at 11 a.m. on the same day at the church with Bro. John Mabrey and Bro. Jack Honeycutt officiating.
