Memorial services for Mr. Walter E. Rate, 76, of Whitleyville, Tennessee, will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. The family has chosen cremation. There will be no visitation prior to the service. He passed away on Monday, June 14, 2010, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville, TN. He was born February 13, 1934, in Scarborough, Canada, to the late Ernest Walter Rate and Mary Montgomery Rate. On October 22, 1968, he was married to Patricia L. Rate, who survives. He was a service writer in the automotive industry. He served in the Canadian Militia, and was of the Lutheran faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 Daughter: Kathy L. Cullers. Survivors include his Wife: Patricia L. Rate of Whitleyville, TN; 1 Son: Walter Ernest Rate II of Nokomis, FL; 1 Daughter: Cindy Grant of Avon, OH; 3 Grandchildren: Kyle Grant, Tyler Grant, and Ryan Grant; 2 Brothers: Kenneth Rate and Raymond Rate, both of Scarborough, Canada; and 1 Sister: Mary Lou Collins of Petersborough, Canada.
