Velma M. Hix

Velma M. Hix was born November 6, 1930 in Jackson County, TN and she passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024 at her residence in Gainesboro at the age of 93.

She was the daughter of James Columbus Johnson and Pearlie Mayberry Johnson.  She retired from Duron Corp. in Cookeville and was a member of the Center Grove Church of Christ.  On March 25, 1946 she married J.D. Hix who passed away July 12, 1984.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, J. D. Hix died July 12, 1984, brothers, Pete Johnson, Ernest Johnson and Robert Johnson; sisters, Zella Charles and Mary Young.

Survivors include her son, Jim (Roberta) Hix of Cookeville; daughter, Sheila (Jack) Hix Swearengin of Gainesboro; grandchildren, James Hix and Heather (James) Hix Caristo; great grandchildren, Sadie Hix and Charli Caristo.  Other relatives and many friends also survive.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, 2-6 pm and Thursday, 10 am to 2 pm.  Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm on Thursday, April 25, 2024 in the Chapel of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. John Mabry officiating.  Burial will follow in Byers Cemetery.
