Funeral services for Mrs. Velma Jo Norton 73, of Gainesboro, TN, will be held at 2 P.M. on Sunday, June 10, 2018, at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the Rob Draper Memorial Cemetery in the Stone community of Jackson County, TN. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11 A.M. - 7 P.M. and on Sunday from 12 noon until time of services. She passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. She was born May 2, 1945, in Jackson County, TN, to the late Norman and Hattie Harris Chaffin. On June 14, 1963, she was married to Gary Norton who survives. She owned and operated Jo's Beauty Shop. She was a member of the Starlighters and Mastersingers and was a member of the Gainesboro Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 1 Son: Tom Norton; 1 Grandson: Trent Norton; 1 Brother: Perry N. Chaffin; and 2 Sisters: Jamie Chaffin Hix and Mary Lucinda Chaffin Myers. Survivors include her Husband: Gary Norton of Gainesboro, TN; 1 Son: Glenn (Kathy) Norton of Lebanon, TN; 4 Grandchildren: Taylor (Katie) Norton, Gregory Norton, Kimberly Norton, and Nicholas Norton; 1 Great - Grandson: Jonathan Taylor Norton; 2 Sisters: Matilda Craighead of Cookeville, TN and Geraldine (Jon) Collins of Portland, TN; and Special Friend: Sue Fox of Cookeville, TN. Bro. Mike Brown, Bro. Johnny Fox, and Bro. Ray Notgrass will officiate at the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chaffin Family Cemetery Fund, Gainesboro Church of Christ Wednesday Night Youth Fund, or the Charlie Norton Christmas Fund by contacting the business office of the funeral home.
