Velma Clark

April 20, 1928 – July 2, 2024

Age 96

Heaven gained an Angel, Velma Rector Clark, 96, of Cookeville went to be with her heavenly father on July 2, 2024, at Bailey Manor. She was a lifelong member of Post Oak Shade Church where she had taught Sunday School.

Funeral service will be held at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro on Friday, July 5, 2024, at 11 AM. Visitation will be 10 AM until service time at 11 AM with Reverend Dow Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Alex Byers Cemetery.

She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a friend to many. She will be greatly missed.

Velma grew up on her family farm, the youngest of 9 children. Hard work was her way of life from being her parents' caretaker to farming, tending cattle, canning vegetables, and raising tobacco.

She loved children and was always happy when family and friends came to visit. Her grandson, Justin was the brightest star in her life.

She was kind hearted and was upset if she thought anyone or anything was hungry. She was known for the coconut cake. If you were sick or having a birthday you probably received a cake or chicken casserole.

She met her husband E.B. walking to church while his military unit was camped in a field near her home. They corresponded while he was in service and married when he returned from World War II.

She saw a lot of changes in her lifetime from riding to town in a wagon to driving her pick-up truck and from cooking on a wood stove to electricity.

From galoshes to nylons - She was a Lady!

Exemplary mother figure and human being, she embodied the best of qualities, unconditional love, strength of spirit and an unending generosity that could be seen in her care for family and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents, Bennett and Savannah Bowman Rector; husband of 63 years E.B. Clark who passed away September 22, 2012; three sisters: Allie Whitson, Irene (Everett) Dyer and Tina (Charley) Swafford; five brothers: Issac, Herman, Hubert, Lester and Haskel Rector.

Survived by her daughters: Rita Crabtree and Geneva Eggleston; grandson, Justin (Cameron) Brown and great grandchildren: Holly and Addison Brown and numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Bailey Manor who took such good care of her.
