Funeral services for Sgt. Major Blair Davis Burgess, Sr., 63, of the Nameless Community of Jackson County, Tennessee, will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, August 8, at Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Burial will follow with full military honors in the Curry's Chapel Cemetery in the Nameless community of Jackson County. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 P.M. - 9 P.M., Monday from 9 A.M. - 9 P.M., and Tuesday from 9 A.M. until time of services at Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Sgt. Major Burgess passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2006, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville, Tennessee. He was born November 29, 1942, in Jackson County to Gladys Davidson Burgess and the late Bernice E. Burgess. On November 7, 2005, he was married to Evelyn Burgess, who survives. He was retired from the United States Army where he served for 26 years. He was a member of the Nameless Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Board of Governors of Curry's Chapel Perpetual Care Cemetery and Grounds Committee. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by 1 Grandson: Noel Burgess. Survivors include his wife: Evelyn Burgess of the Nameless Community of Jackson County, TN; 2 Sons: Blair Davis Burgess, Jr. of Florence, AL and Brian Hayes Burgess of Baxter, TN; 3 Grandsons: Blair Davis Burgess III of Florence, AL, and Elijah Burgess & Eathan Burgess, both of Baxter, TN; 1 Granddaughter: Taryn Burgess of Florence, AL; his mother: Gladys Burgess of Bloomington Springs, TN; 1 Brother: Barney Burgess of the Nameless Community of Jackson County, TN; and 2 Sisters: Betty Mayberry and Kathern Burroughs, both of the Nameless Community of Jackson County. Bro. Jimmy Anderson and Dr. Doug Dycus will officiate at the services.
