Sara Lee Forkum

Sara Lee Forkum was 94. She was born July 3, 1927, in South Pittsburg, TN, to the late George Leslie Lee, Sr. and Bessie (Ewton) Lee. Sara met her future husband Kermit Forkum when they were in school at Tech. They married in 1947. She was preceded in death by her daughter Kathryn Reece Valyo and her grandson David Lee Forkum. She is survived by her son Kenneth and daughter Suzanne and her 2 Grandchildren Kevin Thomas and Jennifer Sparks. Sara was employed in Oak Ridge during her college years. She loved when the book The Girls of Atomic City came out. Sara, in 1961, became the Selective Service Clerk in Jackson County. During the Vietnam Era she saw many boys picked up by Yank Stafford and after they left she laid her head on her desk and cried. Saras husband, Coach, said she was the perfect wife for his profession. Coach went over every game with her when he came in and often got up in the den floor to demonstrate. She never, ever complained about the hours he put in with his boys. No services are planned. Any memorial contributions may be made to the JCHS boys basketball.
