Funeral services for Mr. Samuel Bruce Denton, 88, of Whitleyville, Tennessee, will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, December 10, 2011, at Anderson-Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the John L. Clark Memorial Cemetery in the Stone community of Jackson County, TN. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1 P.M. - 8 P. M., and on Saturday from 10 A.M. until time of services. He passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at Mabry Health Care Center in Gainesboro, TN. He was born July 28, 1923, in Clay County, TN, to the late Hiram Denton and Lula Turner Denton. On April 19, 1945, he was married to the late Eutolia Minchey Denton, who passed away September 28, 2003. He was retired, and a member of the Haydenburg Church of Christ. He was a former member of the Jackson County Quarterly Court, and a former supervisor of the Tennessee State Department of Transportation. He was an avid horse lover and farmer, and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 4 Brothers and 3 Sisters-in-Law: Mascus (Vera) Denton, Ray (Helen) Denton, Morris (Estelle) Denton, and Graden Denton; and 3 Sisters and Brothers-in-Law: Edna (Heady) Jenkins, Gertrude (Lecture) Keith, and Ethel (Eldon) Witcher. Survivors include 1 Daughter: Jimmie (Wayne) Wiley of Whitleyville, TN; 1 Grandson: Kevin (Melinda) Wiley of Whitleyville, TN; 2 Great Grandsons: Samuel Dwayne and Garrett Lee Wiley; 2 Brothers-in-Law: Charles (Helen) Minchey of Lebanon, TN, and Roy (Debbie) Minchey of Carthage, TN; and 1 Sister-in-Law: Dolores Cook of Pleasant Shade, TN. He had so many special nieces and nephews; all whom he held dear, but some, Eldon and Kalin Witcher, Mable Hall, and Judy Eslick, were like his grandchildren. Others include Nancy Turner, Mike Denton, Janie Billingsley, Karen Ferre, Geneva Kirven, Carol Bartlison, Carol Newman, Jo Helen Keith, and Shannon and David Minchey. There were so many cousins and friends. Sam was a people person and enjoyed talking to everyone. Bro. Matthew Stafford and Bro. James Bybee will officiate at the services. Memorial donations may be made to the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital; Union Hill Cemetery, Clay County; or the Alzheimer's Association by contacting the funeral home.
