Funeral services for Roy Thomas, 66, of the Center Grove community of Jackson County, TN, will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, July 15, 2019, at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the John Young Cemetery in the Shiloh community of Jackson County, TN. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4 P.M. - 8 P.M., and Monday from 10 A.M. until time of services. He passed away on Friday, July 12, 2019, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born October 16, 1952, in Detroit, MI, to Oplis Thomas and Jean Thomas. He began working at Fleetguard in 1970, and was employed there for 47 years. He went on staff for UAW in November 1995 as a union organizer. He then became UAW Community Action Program Representative in October 2002, and served until he retired in December 2017. He was a member of the Center Grove Church of Christ, having been baptized on September 20, 1963. He was preceded in death by 1 Brother: Estel Ray Thomas. Survivors include 1 Son: Kevin Roy Thomas and wife, Maria Thomas of Gainesboro, TN; 1 Daughter: Jennifer A. Sparks of Cookeville, TN; his Parents: Oplis and Jean Thomas; and 3 Grandchildren: Jacob Stephen Sparks, Riley MaKaye Thomas, and Reece Maureen Thomas. He is also survived by many friends who were like family to him. Travis Thomas and Jimmy Anderson will officiate at the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cookeville Regional Charitable Foundation or JCHS Boys Basketball by contacting the funeral home.
