Robert Earl Smith was born January 13, 1946, in Jackson County, TN and he passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville, TN at the age of 78.


He was the son of James "Early" Smith and Viva Nell Speakman Smith. Robert worked as a shipping clerk for several years. He was a member of Richmond Chapel Church of Christ and American Legion #129.  He served in the US Army and National Guard.  On September 27, 1968 he married Shirley Ann Howell being married for 55 years.


He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws: Tom Marsh of Sevierville, TN, W.C. and Moline Howell of Gainesboro, TN, Wayne Howell of Cookeville,  Jim and Carol Howell of Livingston, TN.


Survivors include his wife: Shirley Ann Smith of Gainesboro, TN; son: Jason (Pat) Smith of Gainesboro, TN; daughter: Brandy (Dennis) Berta of Gainesboro, TN; sister: Virginia Marsh of  Sevierville, TN; brother in laws Larry (Elizabeth) Howell and Bruce and Cathy Howell of Gainesboro, sister in law Linda Howell of Cookeville; grandchildren: Allyson (Drew) Crews, Kelsey Smith (Danny Hart), Emily (Sydrick) Watson and Peyton Smith: great grandchild: Nora Allyson Crews.  Numerous other family members and friends survive.


Visitation will be on Monday, April 15, 2024, 3-8 pm and Tuesday 11 am till 2 pm in the Chapel of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 2 pm in the Chapel of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Dennis Smith and Bro. Brandon Howell officiating. Burial will follow in John L. Clark Memorial Cemetery.


Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers in Robert's memory to the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort, Inc. and the Jackson Smith County Youth Camp by contacting the funeral home.
