Mr. Ray Dennis, 67, of Gainesboro, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 3, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the John L. Clark Memorial Cemetery in the Stone community of Jackson County, TN. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2 to 8 P.M. and on Saturday from 9 A.M. until time of services. He was born May 10, 1950, in Jackson County, TN, to the late Henry B. Dennis and Willie T. Hopkins Dennis. He was the ninth of nine children. During high school, he was named to the 1967 and 1968 All-Midstate Basketball Team. After graduating from Jackson County High School, he received a full athletic scholarship to Middle Tennessee State University. Following graduation from Tennessee Tech, he returned to Gainesboro, worked in the Jackson County School System for 40 years, and retired as the attendance supervisor for the school system. During his tenure, he also coached the Jackson County Blue Devils in various sports including basketball, baseball, and track. He was named Coach of the Year in the Tri-Lakes Conference numerous times. Ray was an avid sports fan and especially loved cheering for the New York Yankees and supporting the Blue Devils and Lady Blue Devils. He was also proud to be a certified master beef producer. Ray never met a stranger, had a smile that could light up the world, and was always willing to lend a hand to help others. Ray was a member of the Flynn's Creek Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Wife: Helen Kincaid Dennis; 4 Brothers: John L., Baugh, Lewis, and Kelly Dennis and 3 Sisters: Betty Flatt, Cora Jean Mathis, and Alene Dennis. Survivors include His Wife: Teresa H. Dennis of Gainesboro, TN 1 Son: Travis Kincaid Dennis and wife Danielle of Knoxville, TN; 1 Daughter: Madyson Burgess and husband, David Konzen of Atlanta, GA; 1 Sister: Thelma McBride of Gainesboro, TN; and 2 Sisters-in-law: Mildred Dennis and Linda K. Dennis. Nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends also survive. Bro. Mike Fox, Bro. Paul Reed Anderson, and Madyson Burgess will officiate at the services.
