Peggy Ann VanHooser, age 87, of the Stone Community of Jackson County, passed away on August 20, 2025 at Grandview Post Acute Care in Cookeville, TN. Mrs. VanHooser was born in Gainesboro, TN on April 9, 1938 to the late Calvin C. Roark and the late Tennie E. Roark.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. VanHooser was preceded in death by her brother Ray Jackson Roark and sister-in-law Peggy Lee Roark.
Mrs. VanHooser is survived by two sons, Stanley William and wife Karen VanHooser of Cookeville, TN; and Steven Wade VanHooser of Portland, TN; grandchildren, Andrea and husband Zachary Womack of Gainesboro, TN; Brian Justin and wife Lindsey VanHooser of Cookeville, TN; Jackson VanHooser of Cookeville, TN; great-grandchildren, Clara Womack of Gainesboro, TN; Ryker Womack of Gainesboro, TN; Maddox VanHooser of Cookeville, TN; nieces and nephews, David and wife Laura Roark, Diane and husband Phil Begeman, Cathy and the late George Ferraro, Wayne and wife Terri Locke, Terry Locke, Mike Janowski, David Janowski, and Sue Janowski ; beloved cousins, Jimmy and wife Shirley Roark; Anna and the late Russell Roark. A host of other relatives and friends survive.
Ann was born and raised in Gainesboro, TN and lived 57 years of her life in the Stone Community of Jackson County. Ann worked 34 years as a nurse after graduating nursing school in 1982, spending 30 of those years at the Palace Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Red Boiling Springs, Tn, a place she loved dearly. Ann was a member of the United Methodist Church and made her public profession of faith on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023 and was baptized at McKendree Memorial United Methodist Church in Portland, TN. Ann’s favorite time of the year was winter, and Christmas was her favorite holiday as decorations would often go up long before Thanksgiving.
A private family memorial will take place on Sunday, August 24, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the John L. Clark Memorial Cemetery in the Stone Community with Rev. Steven W. VanHooser officiating. A private family gathering will take place at the home of Stanley and Karen VanHooser in Cookeville following internment.
