Paul Neal Birdwell was born on January 31, 1954 in Gainesboro, TN and he passed away June 30, 2021 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, TN at the age of 67. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna Ledford Birdwell and Joe Birdwell of Jackson County. He was a Medical Laboratory Technologist and worked for many years at the Jackson County Hospital in Gainesboro and at East Tennessee Childrens Hospital in Knoxville. He was a graduate of Tennessee Technological University and received a Master of Arts degree in history from the University of Tennessee. Paul had a lifelong interest in music and loved playing the guitar. He also loved reading and scuba diving. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Knoxville, TN. He is survived by his sister, Judy Birdwell, his nephew, John Ingram, his cousins, his church family and special friends, Brian Duncan, Larry Newgent and Tim Rule. Funeral services will be held July 13 at 6:00 pm at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Knoxville, with visitation from 5:00 until time of service. The Reverend Dorothy Pratt will officiate. Interment of ashes will be in the John L. Clark Cemetery in Gainesboro, TN on July 15 at 3:00 pm.
