Oscar Thurrel Chaffin

Funeral services for Mr. Oscar Thurrel Chaffin, 80, of Searcy, Arkansas, will be held at 1 P.M. on Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Cookeville, TN. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 3 P.M. - 9 P.M., and Wednesday from 10 A.M. until time of services. He passed away on Friday, December 11, 2009, at White County Medical Center in Searcy, AK. He was born January 8, 1929, in Cookeville, TN to the late Okla K. and Etta Avo Chaffin. He was a retired skilled trades leader at GM, and a member of the Church of Christ. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 1st Wife: Dottie L. Chaffin; his 2nd Wife: Lois Smith Chaffin; 3 Brothers: Cecil, Theo and Kenneth Chaffin; 2 Sisters: Elsie Durham and Elizabeth Thompson; and 1 Step-son: Dan Smith. Survivors include 3 Sons: Clifford (Debbie) Chaffin of Cookeville, TN; Mark (Ann) Chaffin of Shelby Township, MI and Barry (Mary) Chaffin of Searcy, AK; 7 Grandchildren: Gordon Chaffin, Neil Chaffin, Rebecca Chaffin, Zachary Chaffin, Rachel Chaffin, Emily Chaffin, and James Chaffin; 2 Step-Sons: Michael H. (Dot) Smith and Tim Smith, all of Cookeville, TN; 2 Step-Daughters: Anita (Ben) Underwood of Bloomington Springs, TN, and Tammy Mayberry of Lebanon, TN; 3 Brothers: Marion (Wanda) Chaffin, Arlon (Bobbie) Chaffin, and Lewis (Carolyn) Chaffin, all of Cookeville, TN; 1 Sister: Mildred (Trellis) Ferrell of GA; 14 Step Grandchildren; and 16 Step Great-Grandchildren.
