A celebration of life for Mrs. Mildred Evone Hughes, 83, of Gainesboro, TN, will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Gainesboro First United Methodist Church in Gainesboro, TN. Interment will follow in the Rob Draper Memorial Cemetery in the Stone community of Jackson County, TN. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5 P.M. - 9 P.M., and on Saturday at the church from 11 A.M. until time of services. She was born September 21, 1931, in the Freestate Community of Jackson County. She left for her Eternal home on March 16, 2015, at the family home in Gainesboro. Mildred Hughes was preceded in death by her husband, James Dow Hughes on February 7, 1996; her parents, Otis and Jewel (Smith) Ellis; Brothers, Cecil & Charles Ellis; and Sisters, Edna Ruth Ellis (6 years old), Mary Helen Hannah, and Betty Jane Poteet. Survivors include her children: Ann Hughes of Gainesboro, TN, David & Cindy Hughes of Hardy's Chapel, TN, Rosemary & John Henry of Gainesboro, TN, Laura & Mark Seaton of Athens, TN, and Susan & Steve Burgess of Gainesboro, TN; Grandchildren: Brad & Randi Stafford, Tyler & Allison Stafford, Kelli & Alan Plaxco, David N. Seaton & Hannah Seaton, and Emily & Ezekiel Burgess; Great - grandchildren: Campbell Stafford, Benjamin & Micah Plaxco, and Braidyn Lewis; and 1 Sister: Carolyne McCormick of Gainesboro, TN. Her life was filled with love of family and friends. She was known for her gift of counsel when someone needed good sound advice they knew she could provide. Her strength in times of crisis was a great gift to so many. One of her great loves was reading -- she traveled many places in her books. Traveling was another joy she shared with family and friends. Her family always laughed how when she cooked for her family you never really knew who else would come through the backdoor to eat. All were welcome! Many wonderful meals and great memories were shared round our family table. Mrs. Hughes was a member of Gainesboro First United Methodist Church.
