Funeral services for Mrs. Merle Hawkins Horton, 67, of Algood, Tennessee, will be held at 1 P.M. on Monday, November 28, at Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Cookeville, TN. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3 - 9 P.M. and on Monday from 11 A.M. until time of services at Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Mrs. Horton passed away on Friday, November 25, 2005, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville, Tennessee. She was born March 13, 1938, in Jackson County, Tennessee, to the late Grant Hawkins and Ola Garrison Hawkins. Mrs. Horton was a factory employee and machinist. She was a member of the Gainesboro Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by ; 3 Brothers: Hollis Hawkins, Glendus Hawkins, and Donald Hawkins; and 2 Sisters: Nellie Heady and Maylene Bowman. Survivors include 1 Son and Daughter-in-Law: James & Donna Elrod of Gainesboro, TN; 1 Daughter: Susie Henson & Ronnie Sheron of Gainesboro, TN; 6 Grandchildren: Shawn Penley, Kris Penley, Megan Henson, Jamie (Brad) Halfacre, Jennifer (Jeremy) Rector, and Alex Elrod; 3 Step- Grandchildren: William Pippin, Tammy Howard, and Kimberly Agee; 8 Great-Grandchildren: Ashton, Brayden, Dylan, Amara, Marcus, Haven, Mason, and Morgan; 3 Step-Great Grandchildren: Donovan, Andrew, and Jacklyn; 1 Sister: Lois Bowman of Cookeville, TN; Special Friends: Dimple and Weldon Noble, and Judy Olinger; and a Special Niece: Patty Bowman. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Bro. John R. Fox and Bro. Carl Sims will officiate at the services.
