Matilda Ann Stewart

Funeral services for Matilda Ann Scott Stewart, 85, of Cookeville, TN, will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2020, at 1 P.M. at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the Smiths Chapel Cemetery in Putnam County, TN. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4 P.M. - 8 P.M., and Saturday from 10 A.M. until time of services. She passed away on Monday, November 23, 2020, at her residence. She was born January 1, 1935, in Jackson County, TN, to the late Morgan and Mamie Scott. On September 3, 1957, she was married to the late Oplis Armel Stewart. She was a homemaker, and her hobbies included gardening, sewing, shopping, and visiting with her family and friends, especially her children and grandchildren. She attended the Fairview Church of Christ in Putnam County for many years. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 1 Step Daughter: Rita Deweese; 1 Step Son: Tommy Stewart; 5 Brothers: Andy Scott, Jerry Scott, Hamp Scott, Walton Scott, and Curtis Scott; and 3 Sisters: Mary Scott Pound, Sally Scott Masters, and Myrtle Scott Phillips. Survivors include 4 Children: Patricia Lafever Johnson (Kirby) of Cookeville, TN, Joann Abrams (Eric) of Kingston, GA, Peggy Stewart of Gainesboro, TN, and Gerald Stewart of Cookeville, TN; Grandchildren: Brooke Young (Josh), Kelly Rice (Chanse), Justin Lafever (Sarah), Shane and Betsy Stewart, and Jewel Beaty; Step Children: Faye Ramsey of Cookeville, TN, Janie White (Bill) of Oak Ridge, TN, Gary Stewart (Pam) of Cookeville, TN, and Donna Lafever (Hal) of Silver Point, TN; 2 Brothers: Odell Scott (Marie) of Cookeville, TN, and Richard Scott of Gainesboro, TN; 2 Sisters: Carolyn Scott Burris of Gainesboro, TN, and Cathy Scott Stafford of Algood, TN; and several great grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and step-great grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends also survive. Bro. Danny Scott will officiate at the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Smiths Chapel Cemetery or the Alzheimers Society by contacting the funeral home.
