Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Evelyn Way Pippin, 78, of Baxter, Tennessee, will be held at 1 P.M. on Friday, September 2, at Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow in the Union Hill - Flatt Cemetery in the Union Hill community of Jackson County. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10 A.M. - 9 P. M., and Friday from 10 A.M. until time of services at Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Mrs. Pippin passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2005, at her residence in Baxter, Tennessee. She was born July 9, 1927, in Jackson County to the late Leo Anderson Way and Mary Ina Flatt Way. On July 10, 1943, she was married to J. Fred Pippin, who survives. Mrs. Pippin was a homemaker, and a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was a former employee of the Acme Boot Company, a seamstress, and also a quilt maker. Mrs. Pippin enjoyed crafts and decorating, and was a member of the International Dollmakers of America and the Art & Painting Society. She was a member of the Union Hill Church of Christ, and a genuine Christian lady. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 Brothers: L.A. Way, Layton D. Way, and Litton C. Way; 1 Sister: Elsa Roberta Smith; and 1 Great-Grandchild: J.E. Pippin. Survivors include her husband: J. Fred Pippin of Baxter, TN; 2 Daughters and 1 Son-in-Law: Mary Alice Pippin Clemons & Harold Clemons of Baxter, TN, and J. Kathy Pippin of Baxter, TN; 6 Grandchildren: Sandy Duncan, Ken Birdwell, Lesette Pippin (Richard) Walker, J. Greg (Linda) Pippin, Greta Pippin (Wade) Hurst, and Avo Pippin (Roger) Julian; 3 Step- Grandchildren: Jack Clemons, Todd Clemons, Robin (Dewayne) Parker; 7 Great-Grandchildren: Lindsey Pippin Walker, Dustin Birdwell, Chase Duncan, Lacey Jade Pippin, Lane William Pippin Walker, Jonathan David Julian, and Gracey Kathrynn Hurst; 3 Step-Great-Grandchildren: Ariel and Waverly Parker, and Lynn Durham; 4 Sisters-in-Law: Lucille (Ralph) Flatt of Cookeville, TN, Bulah Birdwell of Bloomington Springs, TN, Clara Jean (Jim) Way of Cookeville, TN, and Margaret Way of Knoxville, TN; and 2 Uncles and 3 Aunts: Joe & Aline Way of Cookeville, TN, Emogene & Howard Jakob of Nashville, TN and Eula Way of Cookeville, TN.
