Mary Smallwood Flatt

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Nell Smallwood Flatt, 82, of Baxter, TN, will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the Young Cemetery in the Center Grove community of Jackson County. The family will receive friends on Monday from 4 P.M. to 9 P.M., and on Tuesday from 10 A.M. until time of services. She passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2016, at her residence. She was born May 11, 1934, in Jackson County, TN, to the late Jonah R. Smallwood and A.V. Smallwood. On January 30, 1956, she was married to the late Earl Lee Flatt, who passed away March 11, 2001. She was a retired factory employee, and a member of the Center Grove Church of Christ. She was a mother figure to many young people through the years, impacting them with her love. Her guidance and wisdom will continue to bless all who knew her. Aunt Nell will be dearly missed. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 1 Daughter: Juanita Smallwood; 1 Brother: James Smallwood; and 2 Sisters: Joy Ann Smallwood and Jerline Stafford. Survivors include 1 Brother: Roy (Betty) Smallwood of Gainesboro, TN; and 3 Sisters: Anna (Roy) Flatt, Nell Haney, and Linda (Royce) Jenkins, all of Gainesboro, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Bro. John Mabery will officiate at the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the India Mission Fund by contacting the funeral home.
