Funeral services for Marie Carter Pharris, 87, of Gallatin, TN, and formerly of Granville, TN, will be held at 1 P.M. on Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Granville First United Methodist Church in Granville, TN. Burial will follow in the Granville Cemetery in Granville, TN. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 - 8:30 P. M. at the funeral home. Thursday the body will lie in state at the Granville First United Methodist Church from 12 Noon - 1 P.M. Mrs. Pharris passed away on Monday, 5/12/2008, at Golden Living Center - Brandywood in Gallatin, TN She was born September 27, 1920, in Jackson County, TN, to the late Lee Roy and Fannie Roberts Carter. She was a retired teacher and guidance counselor at Jackson County High School. She graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Tennessee Polytechnic Institute, a Masters Degree from Tennessee Technological University, and was a member of the Granville First United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 1 Daughter and Son-in-Law: Sandra Jo and Warren Gilley; 4 Brothers: Ray Farmer Carter, Malcolm Edgar Carter, Mack Austin Carter, and J.N. Carter; and 2 Sisters: Emma Dorcas Carter and Vyda Belle Anderson. Survivors include 1 Daughter and Son-in-Law: Jane Ellen Pharris Wooten and husband, Bill E. Wooten, Jr. of Gallatin, TN; 4 Grandchildren: Terri (Gilbert) Gilchrest, Warren Lee Gilley, Catharine Brooke Wooten, and Susan Wooten (Steven) Ford; 4 Great-Grandchildren: Christopher Gilley, Matthew Ryan Ford, Riley Kathryn Ford, and Rachel Ford; and 1 Brother: Alton Greston Carter of Granville, TN. Pastor Ernest Blair will officiate at the services.
