Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel Christine Meadows Mathis, 84, of Gainesboro, TN, will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the Rob Draper Memorial Cemetery in the Stone community of Jackson County, TN. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11 A.M. until time of services. She passed away suddenly on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at her residence. She was born November 21, 1934, in Gainesboro, TN, to the late Burton Meadows and Jessie Young Meadows. She was married to the late Joe Oliver Mathis. She was a nurse, and spent the majority of her career working at Wright Patterson Air Force base in Fairborn, Ohio. She loved gardening and simply enjoying the beauty of the mountains and rivers around her home in Jackson County. She was a fierce and loyal wife, mother, and grandmother and best friend. She was well read and progressive in her thinking, providing a wealth of information, guidance, and unconditional love to her family. She attended the New Hope Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her Parents: Burton Meadows and Jessie Meadows; her Husband: Joe Oliver Mathis; and Brother: Willard Meadows. Surviving relatives include 1 Daughter: Betty (Joseph) Herold of Gainesboro, TN; and Grandchildren: Joseph (Tiffany) Herold of Gainesboro, TN, and Erica Herold of Sonoma, California.
