Lula Bownes

Funeral services for Mrs. Lula Bownes, 89, of Gainesboro, Tennessee, will be held at 2 P.M. on Sunday, July 29, 2007, at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the Pharris Cemetery in the McCoinsville community. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1 P.M. - 9 P.M., and on Sunday from 12 noon until time of services. Mrs. Bownes passed away on Friday, July 27, 2007, at Cumberland River Hospital in Celina, TN. She was born April 13, 1918, in Clay County, Tennessee, to the late William Harvey Strong and Roxie Rush Strong. She was married to Carl J Bownes, who survives. She was a homemaker, and was a member of the Gainesboro First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents: William Harvey and Roxie Rush Strong; her first husband: Lex Stafford; her second husband: Fred Stafford; 1 Step-son: James Stafford; 6 Brothers: Joe, Haskell, Bethel, Amos, Willie Jay and Wilbert Strong; and 2 Sisters: Hattie Moss & Lola Strong (her twin sister). Survivors include her husband: Carl J Bownes of Gainesboro, TN; 1 Son and Daughter-in-law: Billy Joe and Nancy Stafford of Gainesboro, TN; 2 Grandchildren: Vicky Salyer and William Thomas Stafford both of Gainesboro, TN; and 1 Great-Grandchild: Elizabeth Salyer.
