Funeral services for Mrs. Lois Smith Chaffin, age 78 a resident of Gainesboro, TN, will be held Saturday, March 29, 2008, at 2 P.M. at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the Rob Draper Memorial Cemetery in the Stone community of Jackson County. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5 P.M. - 9 P.M., Friday from 2 P.M. - 9 P.M., and on Saturday from 11 A.M. until time of services. Mrs. Chaffin passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at her residence. She was born May 27, 1929, in Jackson County, TN, to the late Morgan and Nannie Phillips Murphy. On June 28, 2002, she was married to Thurrel Chaffin, who survives. She was a retired insurance agent with United Family Life Ins. Co. and former co-owner of Anderson Funeral Home. Mrs. Chaffin was a member of the Zion Church of Christ who loved to serve others through photography, cooking, and the work of the church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Hobert Smith, whom she married June 23, 1950; 1 Son: Dan Smith; 1 Great - Granddaughter: Mollie Danielle Smith; 4 Brothers: Thurlow, Willard, Austin, and Lester Murphy; and 2 Sisters: Thelma Swan and Ruth Pennington. Survivors include her Husband: Thurrel Chaffin of Gainesboro, TN; 2 Sons: Mike and Dot Smith of the Zion community of Jackson County, TN; Tim Smith of Cookeville, TN; and Sandi Smith of Cookeville, TN; 2 Daughters: Anita and Ben Underwood of the Union Hill community of Jackson County, TN; and Tammy and Terry Maberry of the Zion community of Jackson County, TN; Former Daughter-in-Law: Leah Smith Templeton; 3 Step-Sons: Cliff, Mark, and Barry Chaffin; 14 Grandchildren: Jeremy Smith, Justin Smith, Jonathan Smith, Andrea Beaty, Anna Smith, Joseph Underwood, Jared Underwood, Julie Wilken, Jana Underwood, Alexandra Smith, Zachariah Smith, Blake Maberry, Hope Maberry, and Austin Maberry; 15 Great-Grandchildren; 7 Step-Grandchildren; and 4 Sisters: Mary Strang of Hilham, TN; Zanda Gentry of Cookeville, TN; Georgia Ouellette of Detroit, MI; and Betty Ragland of Gainesboro, TN. Bro. Ted Gaw and Bro. Don Chaffin will officiate at the services.
