June Jones Neely

February 23, 1936 – August 24, 2025

Age 89

June Jones Neely, 89, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025, in Southside, Alabama. A graveside service will be held at the John L. Clark Memorial Cemetery in Gainesboro, Tennessee, on Saturday, September 6, at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by Village Chapel Funeral Home (Gadsden, AL) and Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home (Gainesboro, TN).

June was born on February 23, 1936, in Wardell, Missouri, to L.V. Jones and Mayme Ephlin Jones. She was a devoted wife, cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, a caring sister, and a dear friend to many.

Her love for the Lord and His church was evident in her willingness to serve in any way she could. From lending a hand at fellowships to assembling gift baskets for shut-ins, June found joy in blessing others through her service. As a minister’s wife, she faithfully served in many congregations through the years. After the passing of her husband, David Neely, she found comfort and belonging at the North Central Church of Christ in Bloomington, IN, and later with both the Rainbow and Gadsden congregations in Gadsden, AL. She especially loved being part of the Ladies Bible Class at Rainbow, where she shared fellowship, encouragement, and lasting friendships.

Outside of church life, June formed lasting friendships in the workplace during her years at Kmart and throughout her 18 years of service at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. She was also a proud Hoosier basketball fan, always making sure she could watch the game. Above all, June loved her family deeply. She never missed an opportunity to capture their lives in photos, often sneaking pictures of those she cherished most.

June was preceded in death by her husband, David Neely; her parents, L.V. and Mayme Jones; and her brother, Larry Jones. She is survived by her children, David (Teresa) Neely and Barbara Kirkland; her grandchildren, Mandy (Jeremie) Smith, Dave (Jessica) Lasseter, and Andy (Amber) Kirkland; her great-grandchildren, Luke Contris, Andrew Kirkland Jr., Brock Kirkland, Benjamin Lasseter, Charlotte Lasseter, and Ella Lasseter; and her siblings, Ellen Bristoe and Neda (Benny) Riley.

She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Gainesboro, Tennessee, surrounded by her family and friends who loved her dearly. We rejoice in knowing she is with Jesus, and after 31 years apart, reunited with the love of her life.

The family would like to extend special thanks to all those who cared for June through the years, especially Glenda, Crystal, and Tiffany with Southern Care Hospice.
