Funeral services for Mr. Joe Nathan Johnson, 89, of Gainesboro, Tennessee, will be held at 1 P.M. on Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the Rob Draper Memorial Cemetery in the Stone community of Jackson County, TN. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 P.M. - 9 P.M., and Thursday from 10 A.M. until time of services. He passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013 at his residence. He was born February 23, 1924, in Jackson County, TN, to the late Luther Johnson and Annie Huff Johnson. On December 25, 1967, he was married to Katherine Johnson, who survives. He was a retired foreman at Twin Lakes Telephone, and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Gainesboro First United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 Brothers: Comer Johnson, Clarence Eugene "Gene" Johnson, and an infant brother. Survivors include his Wife: Katherine Johnson of Gainesboro, TN; 4 Sons: Jeff (Shannon) Johnson of Gainesboro, TN, Jim (Carol Ann) Simpson of St. Louis, MO, Terry (Pamala) Simpson of Warrens, WI, and Stan (Ute) Simpson of Gurley, AL; 1 Daughter: Jerekay (James) Gunnels of Mt. Juliet, TN; 2 Sisters: Nell (George) Williams of Gallatin, TN, and Martha (Richard) Mansell of Virginia; 10 Grandchildren; and 7 Great-Grandchildren. Nephews, other relatives, and friends also survive. Stan Simpson, Rev. Kathie Bowles, and Rev. Russell Cain will officiate at the services.
