Jo Helen Mahaney White
November 20, 1938 – January 1, 2023
Age 84
Mrs. Jo Helen Mahaney White, age 84, passed away at her home in Nashville, TN, on Sunday, January 1, 2023 after a long, hard-fought battle with strokes for more than 5 years. Throughout, she was always an inspiration to her family, friends, caregivers, and co-workers.
“Miss Jo” as she was fondly known, was born in the Flynn’s Lick community in Jackson County, TN on November 20, 1938 to Mr. Ernest Lee Mahaney and wife Mrs. Effie Lee Jones Mahaney. Jo Helen was the first of their 6 children, and she was the first grandchild on both sides. She grew up in the Flynns Creek and Corinth community, and graduated from Jackson County High School.
Miss Jo became a member of the church of Christ at the Forks of the Creek congregation early in her life. She and her Dad, Mr. Ernest, were baptized in the Flynn’s Creek on the same day. She continued her faithful, obedient walk when she moved to Nashville in 1956. Her siblings credit her today for helping her parents to raise them, educate, and provide a home for them.
Mrs. Jo married Walter T. White, Jr. of Nashville in March 1965. He passed away on November 3, 2009. She worked for the State of Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development as an Executive Secretary.
Mrs. Jo is survived by 1 Daughter and Son-in-Law: her special love, Lana Lee White and her husband Torsten Klaus; 2 brothers: Bill Mahaney of Livingston and Paul Mahaney of Ashland City, TN; 2 Sisters: Betty Sue Mahaney Bryant and husband, Kenneth Bryant of Orlando, FL, and Peggy Mahaney of Cookeville, TN. Their youngest sister, Miss Patsy Ann Mahaney, preceded Mrs. Jo in death in November, 2014.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at 1 P.M. at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home, with Bro. Jimmy Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mahaney Family Cemetery in Jackson County. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11 A.M. until time of services.
