Jimmy Michael Ellis

October 28, 1948 – September 21, 2024

Age 75

Mr. Jimmy Micheal Ellis was born on October 28th, 1948 and passed away on September 21st, 2024 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, with his loved ones by his side.

Jimmy worked in construction for 35 years at Highways Inc. Before that, he worked many years at McDowell Construction for his father, the late Cecil Ellis. He started out as a laborer and eventually became a foreman. In very little time, he became the youngest to hold the title of Finish Motor Grader Operator. It wasn’t long until everyone in the business said that he was the best grader operator around. He had a saying that his son still carries on today in the business, “We cut the grade.” He took a lot of pride in his work.

Jimmy’s hobbies included watching and rewatching his favorite westerns, listening to country music on the porch, shooting his BB gun, riding around when he could, spending time with his family, making people laugh, and being spoiled by Mrs. AnnaJean.

Jimmy was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Cecil and Gearldine Minchey Ellis. He was the son-in-law of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harvey and Rozell Johnson Brown.

Jimmy’s other relatives include his wife of 52 years, Mrs. AnnaJean Ellis, his son and daughter in-law, Joey and Lucretia Ellis, his daughter, Tracy Ellis Terry, three granddaughters and their boyfriends, Tanna Terry and Tyler Sumpter, Tisha Terry and Dominic Smith, and Aspen Carter and Justin King, his brother and sister-in-law, Jackie and Gail Ellis, his sister and late brother-in-law Jeri and Ray Pryor, his sister-in-law and late brother-in-law Linda and Bill Dennis, his brother in-law and late sister- in-law, Jack and Catherine Brown, his late brother-in-law Paul Brown, his aunt and late uncle, Carolyne and Roger McCormick and Willie Mae and Howard Reeves, three special bonus granddaughters, Summer Dennis, Kailey Hileman, and Linsey Anderson, and his special friend and caretaker, Mr. Randall Anderson, who was always there when we needed him.

In addition, he is survived by a host of wonderful family and friends that he and Mrs. AnnaJean have been blessed with over the years.

The Visitation will be Tuesday, September 24th, 2024 at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home from 1:00 until the time of graveside services at 4:00. The graveside services will be officiated by Brother Earl Brazle, Jr. and burial will be at Welch-Brown Cemetery
