Funeral services for Ada Jewell Carter Fox, age 92, of Gainesboro, will be Monday, February 18, 2013 at 11 A.M. from the chapel of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home, with Bro Johnny Fox officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5 P.M. to 9 P. M. and Monday 2 hours prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in the William C. Fox Mem. Cemetery in the Center Grove community of Jackson County, TN. Born February 15, 1921 in Jackson County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Oliver Lee Carter and Alise Lena Caroline Hopkins Carter. On January 24, 1942, she married William Collie Fox, who preceded her in death on December 17, 1995. She died February 15, 2013, at Mabry Health Care, in Gainesboro, Tennessee. She was a resident of the Center Grove community in Jackson County, and a member of the Center Grove Church of Christ. She retired from the Tennessee Department of Human Resources, working from January 1959 to February 1987. She was a school teacher for many years before and during World War II to 1958 at Shady Grove, Corinth, Flynn's Lick and Granville schools in Jackson County. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and friend. She was in the graduating class of 1939 from Jackson County High School, attended Middle Tennessee State University, and graduated from Tennessee Polytechnic Institute (TPI) in 1957 now Tennessee Technology University. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), United Daughters of the Confederacy, First Families of Tennessee, and Retired School Teachers Association of Jackson County. She had a great love for genealogy, spending many hours in the library researching for ancestors and becoming very knowledgeable about her ancestors and sharing this information with many others. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Shirley Roberson Fox; an infant grandson, and grandson Barry Lynn Fox; brother John Morgan Carter, sisters Jimmie Richmond Carter Ragland, Dottie Mae Carter Allen Chaffin, and infant sister Vinne Edith Carter. Brother-in-laws Colonel Ragland, John William Allen, Willie B. Chaffin, Dushan Kalagurgevich (Duke) Kallich and sister-in-law Pearl Elizabeth Ewy Carter. Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby Carter and Nancy Charlotte Bean Fox of Hartselle, Alabama; Danny Joe and Brenda Faye Scott Fox, and Quentin Lee and Linda Kathleen Garrison Fox of Cookeville, Tennessee; Dwight Vernon and Carolyn Sue Crabtree Fox of Gainesboro, Tennessee; 6 grandchildren and spouses: Daryl Glen and Linda Joyce Latta Fox of Hartselle, Alabama; Cheryl Lea Fox and Patrick Brent McClendon of Huntsville, Alabama; William Terry Fox of Knoxville, Tennessee; Casey Jerome and Andrea Leigh Birdwell Fox, and Lori Caroline Fox and Chris Halfacre, and Abby Leigh Fox of Cookeville, Tennessee; 9 Great grandchildren, Sarah Emily Fox of Hartselle, Alabama, Jaxon Wade Fox, Maddox Carter Fox, Katelyn Caroline Taylor and Olivia Grace Taylor of Cookeville, Tennessee; Harrison Carter McClendon and Andrew Grayson McClendon of Huntsville, Alabama; Step grandchildren: Trish and Wes Parker, Suzanne and Scott Wood, Cindy and Terry Langley of Cookeville, Tennessee. 5 Step great grandchildren: Sean Neal Nowak US Air Force, serving in Kuwait, Levi Halfacre, Livingston, Tennessee, Ashlee and Dallas Parker, Cody and Jacob Harrington of Cookeville, Tennessee. A sister Bettie Lee Carter Kallich of Fresno, CA., and several nieces and nephews, her many friends, and past coworkers. The family would like to express their appreciation to primary caregivers Christine Wiley, and Nancy Pippin, and the staff at Mabry Health Care.
