Jean Thomas

“Jean” Henrietta Nims Thomas of Detroit, Michigan, a long time resident of the Center Grove community in Jackson County, TN, passed away on July 13th, 2023, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Jean was married to Oplis “Dopey” Thomas for 72 years. Together they opened Thomas Service Station in 1960, where they met life long friends in the Jackson County community. Their love for each other sustained them through the grief of losing both of their sons.

Jean worked for Fleetguard, where she enjoyed being involved in the UAW Region 8. She took great pride in her cooking, house keeping, and most of all doing everything she could to help her family. She was a wonderful grandmother who took Kevin and Jennifer on weekly Tuesday trips to Nashville to the Salvation Army to find good deals.

Jean loved being involved in the Center Grove Church during the years she was able. One of her greatest pleasures was following the Jackson County Blue Devils Basketball program. Her love for the Lord, her family, and her friends will be forever cherished in our hearts.

Surviving family includes her husband: Oplis Thomas; Grandchildren: Kevin Thomas and wife Maria Thomas,  Jennifer A. Sparks and Jason Jackson; 3 Great Grandchildren: Jacob Sparks, Riley Thomas, and Reece Thomas who all reside in Jackson County; and 2 Sisters: Marilyn McGovern and Mary Ann Bart both residing in Michigan.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 12 Noon at the John Young Cemetery in the Shiloh community of Jackson County, TN, with Bro. Travis Thomas officiating. There will be no visitation or services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jackson County High School Blue Devils Basketball Program by contacting the funeral home.
