James W. Ragland

Funeral services for Mr. James W. Ragland, 91, of Cookeville, Tennessee, will be held at 1 P.M. on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the John L. Clark Memorial Cemetery in the Stone community of Jackson County, TN. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 11 A.M. until time of services. He passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2012, at his residence. He was born September 16, 1920, in Jackson County, TN, to the late William Charley Ragland and Celia Eliza Apple Ragland. He was married to Helen L. Ragland, who survives. He was retired from Chrysler after 32 years, and a member of the Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was combat wounded in France, and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his First Wife: Julia Faye Quarles Ragland; 1 Brother; and 4 Sisters. Survivors include his Wife: Helen L. Ragland of Cookeville, TN; 2 Sons: Joel (Tonya) Ragland of Clarksville, TN, and Steven Carpenter of Albuquerque, NM; 1 Daughter: Kay Armstrong of Nashville, TN; 2 Grandchildren: Nicholas Ragland and Natalie Ragland; 1 Brother: Charles Ragland; and 3 Sisters: Lyda Taylor, Bobbie Chaffin, and Celia Billingsley.
