Funeral services for Mr. James L. Evins, 74, of the New Hope community of Jackson County, Tennessee, will be held at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery in the New Hope community of Jackson County, TN. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2 P.M. until 9 P. M., and on Tuesday from 9 A.M. until time of services. He passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2011, at his residence. He was born August 15, 1936, in Jackson County, TN, to the late Lee and Martha Scott Evins. On July 12, 1956, he was married to the late Barbara Hall Evins, who passed away April 16, 2004. He was a retired machine shop instructor at Tri- County Vocational School. He was a member of the Burristown Church of Christ, and served as a commissioner in Jackson County for 24 years. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his Son: Timothy "Tim" James Evins; and 1 Sister: Willard "Bill" Griffin. Survivors include 1 Son: Stoney Evins and fiance, Melissa Spivey of the New Hope community of Jackson County, TN; 3 Grandchildren: Devon and Dylan Evins, both of the New Hope community of Jackson County; and Angelia Evins (Chris) Sagely of Florida; 1 Great Grandchild: Peyton Sagely; 1 Sister: Jean (Elmer) Ayers of Hilham, TN; and 1 Brother-in- law: Edwin Griffin of Cookeville, TN. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends also survive. Bro. Mike Dennis and Bro. Larry Rhoten will officiate at the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Evins family by contacting the funeral home.
