James E. Pharris

Funeral services for Mr. James E. Pharris, 72, of Cookeville, Tennessee, will be held at 2 P.M. on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the John L. Clark Memorial Cemetery in the Stone community of Jackson County, TN. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2 P.M. - 8 P.M., and Sunday from 12 Noon until time of services. He passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born December 9, 1941, in Jackson County, TN, to the late Bailey Edward Pharris and Sarah Hensley Pharris. On January 25, 1960, he was married to Joyce Pharris, who survives. He was a contractor, and a 32nd degree Mason. He served as a Baptist preacher for 56 years, serving churches throughout the Southeast. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 Sister: Dora Pharris; 2 Brothers: Landon Pharris and Roger Pharris; and 2 Sons: James Pharris, Jr. and Michael Pharris. Survivors include his Wife: Joyce Pharris of Cookeville, TN; 2 Sons: Billy Dale Pharris of Woodbury, TN, and Landon Edward Pharris, Sr. of Nashville, TN; 3 Daughters: Karen L. Adcox of La Vergne, TN, Selina Sue Thackston of Derwood, Maryland, and Dora L. Simpson of Cookeville, TN; 2 Brothers: Elmer Pharris of Madison, TN, and Billy Ray Pharris of Centerville, TN; and 1 Sister: Mary Ann Dietz of Cookeville, TN. 11 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren also survive.
