James Darrell Stewart

James Stewart was born on February 19, 1970, in Jamestown, TN and passed away at his residence in Gainesboro on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the age of 55.

James was the son of James Lee Stewart and Cathy Jean Atkinson Hill. He had a love for all sports. For years, he coached Jackson County Junior High Football. James enjoyed spending time with youths. He was a collector of hand-made quilts. His greatest joy in life was being a papaw to his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Clifford Atkinson, Georgia Atkinson, John Stewart, and Madelyn Stewart.

James is survived by his son: David (Harmony) Stewart of Cookeville, TN; daughter: Courtney (Okilbek) LaFever of Gainesboro TN; brothers: Michael Stewart of Cookeville, TN and David Bradley of Franklin, TN; sister: Amy Harris of Cookeville, TN; grandchildren: Harper Autumn LaFever of Gainesboro, TN and Sadie Stewart of East Knoxville, TN; niece: Alli Beth (Roberts) of Cookeville, TN; and nephew: Parker Roberts of Cookeville, TN.

James had chosen cremation and the family honored his wishes.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested financial assistance with his services.  Donations can be made by contacting the business office at the funeral home.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 2, 2025, from 4 pm until 6 pm at the chapel of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home.
