Jack Simpson Johnson, M.D. Dr. Jack, as he was known by friends and patients, passed away on April 23, 2020, at the age of 94 years. Born and raised in Flynns Lick, Jackson County,he later served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II. Dr. Jack obtained his medical degree from the University of Tennessee, interned in Knoxville, and began his private practice in Gainesboro in 1955. He served Jackson County as a physician for over 30 years. During his career, he delivered over 2,000 babies, which Dr. Jack often said was his favorite part of his practice. He was known for his kind attention to all of his patients, knowing each one by name and family. On December 28, 1948, he married Christine Smith, and they raised four children. Dr. Jack loved studying his Bible while attending Gainesboro Church of Christ and later Collegeside Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Christine, his parents, Oliver and Olga Johnson, and his brother, Robert L. Johnson. He is survived by his brother, Ted Johnson, children, Jacquelyn Haynes, Jerry Johnson, Don (Laura) Johnson, and Lisa Johnson, six grandchildren, Paige (Keegan) Smith, Scott (Liz) Haynes, Brooke (David) Matthews, Lindsey (Seth) Russell, Grey Johnson, and Olivia (Jason) Hammons, and ten great-grandchildren. The family wants to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Jacks caregivers as well as Mabry Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will honor Dr. Jack with a private graveside service. The family will invite all who knew him for a celebration of his life at a later date.
