Funeral services for Mr. J. Fred Pippin, 87, of Baxter, Tennessee, will be held at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the Union Hill - Flatt Cemetery in Bloomington Springs, TN. The family will receive friends on Monday from 3 P.M. - 9 P.M., and on Tuesday from 10 A.M. until time of services. He passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2014, at his residence. He was born August 25, 1926, in Jackson County, TN, to the late Jasper L. Pippin and Sarah E. Edmonds Pippin. On July 10, 1943, he was married to the late Mary Evelyn Way Pippin, who passed away August 31, 2005. He was the founder of J. Fred Pippin Construction Company, and a member of the Union Hill Church of Christ. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 1 Daughter: Mary Alice Pippin; 4 Brothers: Otha, Boyd, Losier, and Hermon Pippin; 5 Sisters: Flora Dyer, Velma Birdwell, Bessie Pippin, Stella M. Birdwell, and Bulah Birdwell; and 1 Great Grandchild: J.E. Pippin. Survivors include 1 Daughter: J. Kathy Pippin of Baxter, TN; 6 Grandchildren: Sandy Birdwell, Ken (Jenny) Birdwell, Lesette Pippin, Greg (Linda) Pippin, Greta (Wade) Hurst, and Avo (Roger) Julian; 7 Great Grandchildren: Lindsey Pippin, Dustin Birdwell, Chase Duncan, Lacey Pippin, Jasper Lane Pippin, Jonathan Julian, and Gracey Hurst; and 1 Sister: Lucille Suggs of Cookeville, TN. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends also survive. Bro. Charles Maxwell, Bro. Steve Bowman, Bro. Bill Flatt, and Bro. Arlon Way will officiate at the services. Memorial donations may be made to the Union Hill - Flatt Cemetery by contacting the funeral home.
