Haskell William Ragland

Age 92
Haskell William "Hack" Ragland was born October 10, 1931, in Jackson County, TN and he passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at Overton County Health & Rehab Center in Livingston, TN at the age of 92.
He was the son of Herbert Watson Ragland and Fronia Ann Vinson Ragland. He was wed to Miss Betty Jo Murphy on October 14, 1950. He served in the Unites States Army from 1952 to 1954 in the 45th Division of the 145th Infantry in communication. He attended Boot Camp in Harrisburg, PA, which was known as Indian Gap Camp. Having completed the camp, he was sent to Seattle, WA, then to Korea. He was stationed at Heartbreak Ridge while serving in Korea. He was shot in the line of duty and was hospitalized for 20 plus days.
After returning home, they settled in MI, where he was employed at Dodge. They later moved back to TN, at which time he started running heavy equipment (bulldozers). He was one of the best bulldozer operators in the area. Nearing the end of his career he went to work for Elk Mountain where he retired after 20 plus years at the young age of 85. He never missed a day of work nor was he ever late.
Hack always worked hard all his life and was very proud of all his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Dudney Hill Church of Christ. He was raised a Master Mason Tannehill Lodge#133 Free & Accepted Masons of Gainesboro, TN, on March 7, 1981. He faithfully served for 43.55 years.
Preceded in death by his parents; grandson: Derek Jordan Ragland; brothers: Ezell, Larry, Coy, Ted, Donnie, and Ralph Ragland; sisters: Moydene Robinson and Mary Rush.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years: Betty Jo Murphy Ragland; son: William Randall (Lisa Gail) Ragland of Whitleyville, TN; daughters: Lisa Way of Gainesboro, TN and Sandy (Don) Daws of Franklin, OH; sister-in-laws: Sandy Ragland, Judy Ragland, and MB Ragland; grandchildren: Shawn Way, Cody (Brooklyn) Way, Nikki Gail Ragland and Deron Daws; great grandchildren: Blakely Way, Colson Way and Jax Way. Numerous other family members and friends survive.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, from 4 PM until 8 PM. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, from 11 AM until time of service. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 2 PM in the chapel of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Anderson and Bro Sam Mainord officiating. Burial will follow at the Rob Draper Memorial Cemetery.
