George "Hamp" Scott

Funeral services for Mr. George Hampton "Hamp" Scott, 80, of Gainesboro, Tennessee, will be held at 2 P.M. on Friday, June 21, 2013, at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in the Fairview community of Jackson County, TN. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 P.M. - 9 P.M., Thursday from 12 Noon - 9 P.M., and Friday from 10 A.M. until time of services. He passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Mabry Health Care Center in Gainesboro, TN, after an extended illness. He was born January 25, 1933, in the Scott Hollow in Jackson County, TN, to the late Morgan Lee Scott and Martha Mamie Scott. On December 3, 1953, he was married to Virgie Marie Smith Scott, who survives. He was a lifelong farmer, and a member of the Harmony Church of Christ. He attended school at the Pacific School in the Roaring River community, and the Fairview School. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 Son: Joe Dennis Scott; 3 Sisters: Mary Johnson Pound, Sally Masters, and Myrtle Phillips; 2 Brothers: Walton Scott and Curtis Scott; 2 Step-Grandsons: Garry Ellis and Michael Ellis; his Father and Mother-in-Law: Henry D. and Bessie Smith; 8 Brothers-in-Law: Robert, Harvey, Lonnie and Eldon Smith, Howard Johnson, Carl Pound, Oplis Stewart, and Thurman Phillips; and 2 Sisters-in-Law: Janie Smith and Doris Smith. Survivors include his Wife: Virgie Marie Smith Scott of Gainesboro, TN; 4 Sons: Danny (Wanda) Scott, Ronnie (Shirley) Scott, and Tim Scott, all of Gainesboro, TN, and Harold Scott of Lebanon, TN; 1 Daughter: Teresa Scott of Gainesboro, TN; 4 Grandchildren: Matt (Marsha) Scott, Phillip (Lisa) Scott, Carol (Steven) Phillips, and Summer Scott; 1 Step- Granddaughter: Jennifer (Mike) Keith; 1 Great- Granddaughter: Lyndsay Scott; 3 Step-Great Grandchildren: Blake Ballard, Gracie Brown, and Justin Younger; 4 Brothers: Andy (Anna) Scott, Richard Scott, and Jerry (Nancy) Scott, all of Gainesboro, TN, and Odell (Marie) Scott of the Dodson Branch community of Jackson County; 3 Sisters: Matilda Stewart and Cathy (Charles) Stafford, all of Cookeville, TN, and Carolyn (Wade) Burris of Gainesboro, TN; 1 Brother-in-Law: Revel Masters of Cookeville, TN; and 1 Sister-in-Law: Dean Smith of Watertown, TN.
