Freeda Starnes-Axsom Melton

Funeral services for Mrs. Freeda Starnes-Axsom Melton, 72, of the Center Grove community of Jackson County, Tennessee, will be held at 3 P.M. on Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the Young Cemetery in the Center Grove community. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1 P.M. - 9 P.M., and Wednesday from 10 A.M until time of services. Mrs. Melton passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2008, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville, TN. She was born September 27, 1936, in Monroe County, IN, to the late William and Mary Fleetwood Axsom. On June 27, 1953, she was married to the late Bobbie G. Melton, who passed away November 5, 2004. She was a pharmacist's secretary, and of the Baptist faith.. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 1 Brother: Ronald Axsom; 1 Brother-in-Law: Carroll Dunham; and 1 Niece: Rhonda Dunham. Survivors include 1 Son: Randall (Kim) Melton of Columbus, IN; 1 Daughter: Saundra "Susie" Johnson of Gainesboro, TN; 1 Granddaughter: Hailey Renea' Johnson of Gainesboro, TN; 3 Grandsons: Darrion Melton, and Sean Swegman, both of Columbus, IN, and Andrew Hall of Indianapolis, IN; 1 Brother: Terry (Sandy) Axsom of Columbus, IN; 3 Sisters: Patsy Wynn, Barbara Dunham, and Sheila (Stacy) Axsom, all of Columbus, IN; and Special Friends: MaiBelle Dyer, Elsie Flatt, and Shirley Mee.
