Frank Mayfield

November 4, 1936 – May 10, 2024

Age 87

The beloved and highly respected Franklin Dee Mayfield was born on November 4, 1936 in Taft, Texas to Willis Curtis Mayfield and Evy Montgomery Mayfield and passed from this earthly life to eternal life on May 10, 2024 at his farming home in Granville, Tennessee.


Frank graduated from Sinton High School in 1955, and would marry his sweetheart, Dorothie Jane Stephenson on September 6, 1957 in Sinton, Texas. Franklin entered the United States Army by volunteering for the draft (Selective Service) in 1957 until his discharge in 1959.


In 1959, Frank and Dottie moved to California where Frank would work for oil field contractors and eventually would be hired on by the Texas Oil Company (Texaco) as an electrical foreman, he would also graduate with an Associate Arts degree from Ventura College in 1976. Frank and Dottie were inseparable and they would transfer with Texaco to San Ardo, Ca., Santa Paul, Ca., Anaheim, Ca., and Ojai, Ca. where Frank eventually retired. Along the way Frank was an active member of the churches of Christ. Frank was an elder at the Santa Paula, CA., church of Christ, Buena Park, CA., church of Christ and eventually the Flynn’s Creek church of Christ in Granville, TN. Frank helped to build church buildings for the King City church of Christ and the Santa Paula church of Christ and he helped to establish the Southern California School of Evangelism.


Frank will be forever known for his strong work ethic, godly wisdom and Christ-like example for everyone he came in contact with. He loved western movies and television shows with his all time favorite being “Gunsmoke.” Frank was also excellent at woodworking, gardening and cooking.


Frank leaves behind three married children (Glenn and D’vera Wilken, Steve and Melinda Mayfield, Bob and Nedra Bishop) and eight grandchildren (Luke and Julie Wilken & Zack and Heather Wilken, Caleb and Jenna Mayfield, Evan and Natasha Cowlin, & Ethan and Rebecca Mayfield, Christopher and Fallon Bishop, Cole and Ashley Stubblefield, & David and Tiffany Vargas) along with eleven great-grandchildren. His family simply called him and loved him as their “Papa.”


Memorial donations may be made to the Happy Haven Home by contacting the funeral home.


Franklin decided on cremation and the family plans for a private remembrance memorial.
