Elmer D. Ayers

Funeral services for Mr. Elmer D. Ayers, 81, of Hilham, TN, will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery in the New Hope community of Jackson County, TN. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M., and on Saturday from 11 A.M. until time of services. He passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at his residence. He was born June 17, 1935, in Overton County, TN, to the late Mitchell Ayers and Bessie Fisk Ayers. On January 31, 1955, he was married to Elva Jean Ayers, who survives. He worked as a machinist for TVA. He loved animals, and enjoyed traveling, camping, and gardening. He was a member of the New Hope Community Church, where he served as an usher for many years. He also served as the treasurer of the New Hope Cemetery for many years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 Son: Terry Ayers; 2 Brothers: George Ayers and David Ayers; and 1 Sister: Reba Thompson. Survivors include his Wife: Elva Jean Ayers of Hilham, TN; 2 Sons: Steve (Sharon) Ayers of Hilham, TN, and Mike (Tina) Ayers of Hilham, TN; 1 Daughter-in-Law: Debbie Ayers Farmer of Knoxville, TN; 5 Grandchildren: Chris (Melinda) Ayers, Brad (Andrea) Ayers, Penny (Billy) Cummins, Mandy (Casey) White, and Brandon (Karla) Ayers; 9 Great Grandchildren: Mitchell Ayers, Samuel Ayers, Carson Walker, Colin Ayers, Emma Grace Ayers, Corey White, Ashton Ayers, Dalton Cummins, and Tessarae Faith Cummins; 1 Brother: Harold (Opal) Ayers of Hilham, TN; 3 Sisters: Faye Anderson of Livingston, TN, Frances (Gene) Boles of Hilham, TN, and Brenda (Jack) Buck of Livingston, TN; and a Special Niece: Judy Johnson. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends also survive. Bro. Phillip Morgan and Bro. Gordon Lee will officiate at the services.
