Doyce Hawkins Smith

Funeral services for Mrs. Doyce Z. Hawkins Smith, 87, of the Dodson Branch community of Jackson County, Tennessee, will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the Dodson Branch Cemetery in the Dodson Branch community of Jackson County, TN. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4 P.M. - 9 P.M., and Wednesday from 8 A.M. until time of services. Mrs. Smith passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2009, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville, TN. She was born November 15, 1921, in Jackson County, TN, to the late Dillard and Lillie Gentry Hawkins. On October 31, 1945, she was married to the late Herman Cordell Smith, who passed away January 13, 1963. She was a retired cafeteria worker at Dodson Branch Elementary School, and a member of the Zion Church of Christ. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 2 Sisters: Daffo Hawkins West and Agnes Hogg. Survivors include 4 Sons: Jimmy (Annette) Smith, Richard (Wanda) Smith, Eddie (Sheila) Smith, and Terrill (Lisa) Malone, all of Cookeville, TN; 2 Daughters: Linda (Buddy) Gaw of Cookeville, TN, and Shirley Jordan of Dayton, Ohio; 8 Grandchildren: Matt Smith, Jason Smith, Lisa Smith Slaughter, Donna Ford, Kimberly Johnson, Alison Wilber, Katie Malone, and Jamie Moody; 4 Great-Grandchildren: Ciera Slaughter, Alexa Slaughter, Jasi Lee Marie Smith, and Cory Moody; 4 Brothers: Kinner (Norma) Hawkins of Cookeville, TN, J.V. (Betty) Hawkins of Oak Ridge, TN, Bill Fred Hawkins of Georgia, and Ronel (Janice) Hawkins of Texas; and 2 Sisters: Navoy Cassetty of Gainesboro, TN, and Harriette Coffer of Oak Ridge, TN. Bro. Jimmy Anderson and Bro. John Anderson will officiate at the services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Church of Christ by contacting the funeral home.
