Dorothy Alcorn Burris

Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Nell Alcorn Burris, 71, of Gainesboro, Tennessee, will be held at 1 P.M. on Friday, June 24, 2011 at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the Byers Cemetery in the Center Grove community of Jackson County, TN. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 - 9 P. M., on Thursday from 1 P.M. - 9 P.M., and on Friday from 9 A. M. until time of services. She passed away on Monday, June 20, 2011, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville, TN. She was born January 26, 1940, in Putnam County, TN, to the late Clyde C. Alcorn and Flora Bell Qualls Alcorn Scott. On June 8, 1956, she was married to the late Otha Donald Burris, who passed away November 24, 2007. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Center Grove Church of Christ. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 2 Sisters: Joyce Argo and Janice Allen. Survivors include 2 Sons: Alan C. Burris and Rellon (Michelle) Burris, all of Gainesboro, TN; 1 Daughter: Sherrie Burris Merwine of Gainesboro, TN; 5 Grandchildren: Elizabeth "Niki" Merwine, Kendra Burris, Dakota Burris, Andrea Burris, and Andrew Burris, all of Gainesboro, TN; 1 Sister: Anna Bell Scott of Baxter, TN; and 3 Sisters-in-Law: Lois Burroughs and Essie (Roy) Young, all of Gainesboro, TN, and Catherine Bragg of Dunlap, TN.
