Donald Burroughs Burris

Funeral services for Mr. Donald Burroughs Burris, 72, of Gainesboro, Tennessee, will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, November 27, 2007, at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the Byers Cemetery in the Center Grove community. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5 P.M. - 9 P.M., Monday from 11 A.M. - 9 P.M., and Tuesday from 9 A.M. until time of services. Mr. Burris passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2007, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville, TN. He was born January 7, 1935, in Jackson County, Tennessee, to the late Crawford Leonard and Lizzie Doyle Flatt Burroughs. On June 8, 1956, he was married to Dorothy Nell Alcorn Burris, who survives. He was a retired construction contractor, and a member of the Center Grove Church of Christ, where he served as an elder for several years. He served in the U.S. Army - 69th Armored Tank Battalion Company "A" Division from July 1957 to July 1959. He was preceded in death by his parents: Crawford Leonard and Lizzie Doyle Flatt Burroughs; and 1 Sister: Eula M. Burroughs. Survivors include his wife: Dorothy Nell Alcorn Burris of Gainesboro, TN; 2 Sons: Alan C. Burris and Rellon & Michelle Burris, all of Gainesboro, TN; 1 Daughter: Sherrie Burris Merwine of Gainesboro, TN; 5 Grandchildren: Kendra, Dakota, Andrea, and Andrew Burris, and Elizabeth (Niki) Merwine, all of Gainesboro, TN; and 3 Sisters: Nellie Catherine Bragg of Dunlap, TN, and Lois Marie Burroughs and Essie Mae (Roy) Young, all of Gainesboro, TN. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends also survive. Bro. David Flatt and Bro. John Mabery will officiate at the services.
