Funeral services for Mrs. Charlene Spurlock Hix, 80, of Cookeville, Tennessee, will be held at 2 P.M. on Thursday, September 3, 2009, at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the New Salem Cemetery in the New Salem community of Jackson County, TN. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 P.M. - 9 P.M., and Thursday from 12 Noon until time of services. Mrs. Hix passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at Masters Health Care Center in Algood, TN. She was born January 1, 1929, in Jackson County, TN, to the late Doctor Jordan and Ethel Bilbrey Spurlock. On April 3, 1950, she was married to the late Ray Douglas Hix, who passed away May 2, 1976. She was a health care worker, a member of the Jefferson Ave. Church of Christ, and a long term member of the New Salem Church of Christ. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 1 Brother and Sister-in-Law: Marshall E. and Irene Spurlock; and 1 Sister: Nell Fowler Gibson. Survivors include 2 Daughters: Katherine (Robert) Ramsey and Carolyn (Tommy) Copeland, all of Cookeville, TN; 3 Grandchildren: Robert Douglas Ramsey, Benjamin Thomas Copeland, and Samuel Jordan Copeland, all of Cookeville, TN; 2 Nieces: Nancy Kile and Virginia Potts; 1 Great-Nephew: Tony Pharris; and 1 Great-Niece: Lee Anne Dennis.
