Bernese Carter

Funeral services for Bernese Carter, 89, of Baxter, TN, will be held on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at 2 P.M. at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Cookeville, TN. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 4 P.M. - 8 P.M., and Sunday from 11 A.M. until time of services. She passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2021, in Gainesboro, TN. She was born September 20, 1932, in Bloomington Springs, TN, to the late James Washington Billingsley and Clevia Lousia Flatt Billingsley. On December 23, 1950, she was married to the late Harold Carter, who passed away October 24, 2004. She lived on Martins Creek, and then later moved to Prosperity Pointe in Baxter, TN. She was a housewife, and also worked at the Granville Post Office. She was also a cook at Granville Elementary School, and the dietary supervisor at NHC Healthcare. She was a member of the Double Springs Church of Christ. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by Brothers: Leo, Roscoe, J.T., Austin, and Ernest Billingsley; Sisters: Ruby Goolsby and Velma Flatt; Son in Law: Richie Meadows; and Step Grandson: Jeb Kinnaird. Survivors include 1 Son: Max (Carol) Carter of Cookeville, TN; 1 Daughter: Debbie (Ronnie) Kinnaird of Gainesboro, TN; Sisters: Juanita (Denzel) Gross of Sterling Heights, MI, and Della Thompson of Clinton Township, MI; Granddaughter: Misty Dawn Stewart; 6 Step Grandchildren; Great Grandchildren: Brooklyn (James) Gibson, Courtney (Kalleb) Scott, Jordan Rodgers, Nolan Meadows, and Dakota Rodgers; 13 Step Great Grandchildren; and Great Great Grandchildren: Raylan Gibson, Karson Lykins, and Cooper Lykins. Bro. Mike Webb and Bro. Don Billingsley will officiate at the services. Memorial donations may be made to the Granville Museum by contacting the funeral home.
