Funeral services for Mrs. Bernell M. Matthews, 85, of Cookeville, Tennessee, will be held at 1 P.M. on Monday, September 15, 2008, at Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the West Cemetery in Putnam County, TN. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3 P.M. - 9 P.M., and on Monday from 10 A.M until time of services. Mrs. Matthews passed away on Friday, September 12, 2008, at Livingston Regional Hospital in Livingston, TN. She was born February 23, 1923, in Jackson County, Tennessee, to the late Oakley and Mary Hix Loftis. On August 4, 1980, she was married to Owen Matthews, who survives. She was a housewife and a member of the Fairview Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 4 Brothers: Ben, Thurell, Charles, and Jack Loftis; and 1 Sister: Willie Hix. Survivors include her Husband: Owen Matthews of Cookeville, TN; 1 Brother: Brady Loftis of Illinois; and 1 Sister- in-Law: Thelma Loftis of Cookeville, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
