Ben Young

Ben Young was born at home December 21, 1952 and raised in the Gibson Hollow Community of Jackson County, TN.  He passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at his residence in Gainesboro at the age of 71.

Ben was the son of Donald Terry "Tish" Young and Julia Elizabeth Elkins Young.  He was a Veteran of the US Army Combat Engineer Private First Class completing Screaming Eagles Air Assault School and becoming a Strike Force member in 1975. He was a member of the Center Grove Church of Christ and a concrete mason and woodcrafter.  There's not much Ben couldn't construct or repair.  He was also a bridge builder.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Charles Russell Young.

Survivors include his wife Donna Cheryl Young of Gainesboro; daughter, Casey (Brandon) Garrison of Cookeville; sister, Connie Johnson; grandchildren, Collin and Brody Garrison both of Cookeville.  Other relatives and many friends also survive.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 5, 2024 from 4 to 8 pm and again on Saturday, 9 am to 11 am at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am on Saturday, July 6, 2024 with Bro. Ronald Strong officiating.  Burial will follow in Birdwell Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Strong, Collin Garrison, Brody Garrison, Cameron Kelly, Brandon Garrison, Jamie Young, Steve Hensley and Rellon Burris.

Memorial donations may be made to India Mission Work, Hospice of TN or Friends of Jackson County Animal Shelter,  by contacting the funeral home.
