Alpha Bronstetter Jones

Funeral service for Mrs. Alpha Bronstetter Jones, 89, of Baxter, TN, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday June 14th in the Chapel at Rosewood near Gainesboro, TN. Interment will follow in the Double Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 - 8 P.M. and Friday morning before the service at Rosewood. Mrs. Jones died Wednesday morning June 5th at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville due to a medical procedure. She was comforted by her daughter Debbie at her side and many family members. She was born September 14th, 1923 on her family farm on Wet Mill Creek, Clay County, TN, which she still owns. Her mother is Della Cooper Bronstetter who was born in the same house on Ground Hog Day 1895. Her father is Eli Bronstetter. Alpha attended Baptist Ridge Grammar School and later Clay County High School, where she was on the girl's basketball team. When World War II broke out the government asked women to help with the war effort by taking the place of men in the factories. She went to Detroit as a Rosie the Riveter. While in Detroit she met and married Dannie Austin Jones, a soldier coming home from the war. He was working in Detroit and was from Smithville. They remained in Detroit until they could retire and come back home to their farms they bought in the early 1960's. Alpha retired from 36 years at Park Davis Pharmaceuticals. Her children are Peggy Cantrell, Debbie Kim Jones Ferguson and husband David, Dannie Calvin Jones, and Glenn David Jones. Her grandchildren are David Cantrell, Matthew, Benjamin, and Michael Ferguson, Brian and Brandon Jones, and great grandchildren Judah and Ponissa Jones. Alpha was a charter member of the Missionary Baptist Church of Detroit for 50 years, and remained in touch with its members after moving to her dream house, which she designed on her farm in Baxter. She was a member of the First Baptist of Baxter for 15 years. Rosewood is located at 379 Glenn Jones Rd. Gainesboro. Anderson - Upper Cumberland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
